Why are we here? The short answer: The Medical Archives (TMA) is the first-ever journal to highlight the contributions and works of science and medical professionals around the nation. We aim to feature stories of those who have made an impact, providing in-depth stories on their career milestones and their passion for science.
As a pre-med student, I’ll admit that I knew (and still know) little to nothing about what being a doctor really means. When I was a freshman, I followed what my pre-health advisors told me: I took all the right classes, started working in a research lab, and tried to learn as much as I could from my peers. I joined the clubs I was passionate about: all I knew was that I loved to write, and I loved to hear the stories of others. I became immersed in my school newspaper and began writing for our medical review, and I also further connected myself to other pre-medical students in my community. However, I was still skeptical of the long road ahead, the years and years of training, and the uncertainty of advancing to the next stage. This summer, I began thinking about ways to connect with medical professionals not just in my local area, but nationwide. And it eventually blossomed into a full-fledged goal to elucidate the unique pathways of different doctors and scientists, lessening the stress of eager pre-meds who don’t have the privilege of guidance along the way.
I started The Medical Archives with that intent: to provide the opportunity for young scientists and future doctors to know exactly what they’re getting into. Deciding which career to pursue is by no means easy, and I’m passionate about helping enthusiastic students to determine their future aspirations. By interviewing and sharing the stories of doctors and scientists, I hope to provide a way for people to understand their passions, and why they’re doing what they’re doing.
